In theory, disabling the items will work - as far as I know, the best method is to disable the items and then delete the files from your custom folder. People who've already downloaded your textures will still be able to see them until they also delete the files from your custom folder.

Since 3.5 the game re-downloads your textures even if disabled/deleted. I'm guessing it's not been a priority for Nabi since there's not many people wanting to disable textures once they've got them.
