What did you mean by "menus don't work" ?

As usual, I'll recommend you to get the latest drivers for your graphics card. Usually fixes are released between the time they installed the operating system on a laptop to the time it was sold.
Maybe you can find updates and fixes also at the laptop manufacturer website.
