Wut? There is (to my knowledge) no data written on that part of the disk. And if there is, there is no way tape is gonna fix it.
The bumps that make up the data are so small that if it's cracked tiny pieces of the glass are surely gone. Still, tape it up and give it a shot, just make sure the tape doesn't come off inside the drive.
