I'm pretty sure the discussion already happened once, but I can't find it again...
I'm a creative, and I'm all for 'piracy'. I'm talking about art and "piracy", softwares are a different matter.
My music doesn't bring me any income yet, still I don't care if people would listen to it/ download it for free, that would actually please me. Most creative people/artists make their own shiz for something deeper than money : for ideas, a message, to touch people, make people think etc... If you want to be rich and comfortable you simply don't start an "artistic career".
But imo, piracy is a transitional state between our actual industry-controlled culture and the possibility of free culture, accessible by everyone, everywhere, free-ed from the money sucking industry. Piracy isn't bad, it's the promise of better days for culture, it's the middle finger given to the big producers/editors.
Plus, piracy isn't really a big deal for the artists themselves, but for their producers. Artists are paid shit. If you're not Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga you can put your hope of having a decent income from album/online songs sales up your ass.
'Piracy format' will get ourselves rid of the dictating "art industry", it will go directly from the creatives to the audience/public, no more industry-parasit sucking the money inbetween.
