Go into the options, change what you want, Then Press enter when you leave. Press singleplayer, then press "ctrl+n". This starts a whole new SP game. The settings should be fine then.

...then close the exe of the game and then launch it again and you will see the default settings

hmm, I am 99% sure there used to be a setting that asked if you wanted to remember the game settings, but it does not seem to be in 3.5 anymore
