In other news.

I went to a Smash 4 tournament.

I got matched against the 9th ranked player in the state in the first round.

He mains a hard counter to my main.

I was bodied.

what were the characters being played

I play Mac. He plays ROB. The projectile game to get in against ROB is hard already, but ROB has fast enough normals, a good grab, and a strong gimping game, so it's a pretty bad matchup for Mac at any distance.

I went 1-2 overall. 2-0'd the Pikachu I met in 1st round Loser's, then was 2-0'd against a keep away Link after I switched to DeDeDe, not knowing he plays a lot with a DeDeDe main until after I lost.
