I've heard something about it being the webchat client that the irc uses if you're using a browser to use the irc.

Try downloading mIRC and connect to the irc you want, that should work.

Download icechat, mirc, etc, and set it up to whatever irc you want to go on. Works perfectly fine.

If you download a client it works, but webchat doesn't. No one goes on IRC anyway :p
