I can only imagine that it's been removed.

Good thing, too; friend requests are very annoying. It was also a useless feature in general.

^ Not really. I like to see who I'm friends with, some of them don't get on so I PM them just incase and most of them I've forgotten their names.

Just wondering, will the notification still appear as like before when you receive them?

or do you have to check manually through the userCP?

No, the contacts list is basically just a list with names on it. The user on the other end will never know they've been added to somebody's contact list unless they are told.

It's been there the whole time (as in pre-dating the crappy friend thing) and pretty much serves the same purpose - except without annoying the fuck out of people in the process.

Add name, they gain a + in your "who's online" to show they're a friend. Poke the list if you really must spy on a profile. Nothing more annoying than spotting a bunch of notifications only to find it's a stack of people attempting to friend you. NFI who 99% of them were either. Pointless, glad it's gone.
