you can do a radial gradient instead of that "shading" technique.
I don't like the dipples or dots or whatever its called, i think it would be better with just a simple radial gradient no overlays/weird brush or canvas

I don't think there's really much you can do. The main thing with chopper has always been the hat and the antlers, but you're taking away the hat as you're doing the green top hat, and the antlers always go over the hat for him. I think the fact that it's plain just comes from the concept.

The only thing that I could think of to actually put some extra content on would be some tufts of fur here and there.

I think you should remove the dots, go to gimp and add fur.
