[ART]How to make your own Chain-trail with PS
It’s my first Tutorial in Toribash so please be nice to me
And I’m not very good in english but I’ll do my best ;)
First of all:
I’ll be using Adobe Photoshop CS2 so perhaps some of you will have a few problems, like saving the texture as *.tga
So if you want to convert your JPG/GIF/whatever to *.tga then just upload and convert it at this site:
tga-converter
So let’s start
Step1:
First of all you have to open a New File with 128x128 pixels.
It’s easier if you’re zooming in and using your straight edge in PS
Just line vertikal steps at: 32, 64, 96
And horizontal steps at: 28, 64, 90
It should look like this:
Step2:
Open a new layer.
Just line a square with round angles inside the lines and fill it black.
Inside THIS square you line another ‚round square‘ just like you want. But not too fat and too thin. Delete it.
Delete your helplines. It should look like this now:
Step3:
Open the layer options of your ring and activate: contour/outline
There should be a color-gradient, too.
You can simply make this one by yourself or you download it from here:
gradient
Copy the layer about 3 times and put them besides.
In my case:
Step4:
Now simply connect 2 of your rings with another square [NEW LAYER!!!] and fill it the same like your rings.
Copy and paste to connectr all of your 3 rings
Step5:
Now type the following:
STRG+A (select the whole image)
STRG+SHIFT+C (copy whole image with all layers)
STRG+SHIFT+N-Enter (open a new layer)
STRG+V (Paste)
Delete all the other leyers, so there’s only 1 layer left with you whole chain in it
Step6:
What we’re doing now is masking your chain so that it’s transparent. Otherwise it would be a trail with a chain and a white ‚splash‘. Not quite amazing
So here we go:
Go to the channels (right in your layer-window) and open a new channel (It will be named ‚ALPHA‘ automaticaly) it will be black (black is for transparent and white for visible)
So it’s possible to make things totally invisible (black) or visible (white) or just a bit transparent (Grey tones)
Just give it a try. We dont need any transparent tones so it’s just simply black and white.
Go back to the layer-screen. Hold STRG and click on the little picture of your layer. Your chain will be selected.
Go back to the channel-screen. Select your ALPHA and will the selected part with white.
It should look like this now:
Last step:
Save your work as *tga and copy it about 4 times in your customization-folder
(In my case: c:/Games/Toribash/custom/btgrave)
Nme them the following EXACTLY:
trail_l_arm
trail_r_arm
trail_l_leg
trail_r_leg
Your Tori now should have the trails if you’re running TB ;)
Have fun
