every time I try to open Toribash a window pops up titled SDL_app, it is see-through and if i move the window, the same area that was behind it as it was opened stays there, when i ctrl+alt+del it says SDL_app is not responding and it does nothing even if i wait. I have windows XP if it matters.

You'll have to provide more info on your computer, as well as the contents of stderr.txt from the toribash folder.

i have a AMD Athlon 64 processor 3200+, 2.20 ghz, 2 gigs of ram, a radeon 9600 series video card, and as i said windows XP, tell me if u need any more info.

also the stderr.txt says: failed to open history.log

That happens to me too, my Pc config is close to yours, what i do to fix that is just wait.
I click in the Tori icon, then it appears, i wait 30 / 10 seconds, and it opens normally.

I think that happen because of much processes your CPU is doing, try doing that:

CRLT + ALT + DEL and see how much Ram it takes to use Toribash.exe

okay waiting doesn't work and when i ctrl+alt+del it jumps to 100% cpu usage.

The only other thing would be to poke your ATI's drivers, it's unlikely that's the cause but stranger things have happened.

I'm not extremely tech savvy, so what does poking the drivers mean?
