Whats a "gamer" for you ?
So yeah , another thread, great huh ?
A reason for this is that i really enjoy reading others oppinions and what you have to say etc.
Now i wonder how you would define a "gamer?"

And i just want to clear this out..
You who only play's fps games and thinks thats hardcore gaming, well serious.
You cant call yourself a gamer if you just own the modern warfare series.
You cant call yourself a gamer if you got a 55 killstreak while screaming noob in the mic.
You cant call yourself a gamer if you are buying a game just for the graphics.

My definition of a gamer is someone who had this interests for a long time and can enjoy a big viarity of games, not just the shooters.
Truly i enjoyed fear, mw2 for an example, but i also enjoyed and still enjoying the megaman series, the early ff series, suikoden, tomba, just name it.
It doesnt have the graphics but who cares aslong you are enjoying it.

So as said, your definition of a gamer?

Also sorry for the spelling errors if there is any.
Hope you understand my point, im not creating this thread to drag up eventual trashtalk.

Anyone who plays games is a gamer to me, to be honest. Doesn't matter how good or bad you are at said games, but if you play - you game.

Being good at a game makes you a good gamer in that particular game, but not good at every game.
collect snots from the nose
Well, if playing just one type ( or genre, whatever) of game isn't gaming, what is it then?

I basically share Gynx's opinion. Even if you just play one type of games, you're gaming (which obviously makes you a gamer).

Things like how good you are or how many games you've played, don't matter at all.
This sig lacks creativity.

Well this was the point that you should define "gamer" not gaming.
I cant say that someone who play one type of game can consider themself as gamers. And hopefully you know what i meant when i said "gamer".
This is totally up to you what you consider what a gamer is.
And i can respect that, and i wasnt after any critism on my point of view.
A gamer likes good games, someone whos just after the shooters and thinks the rpg's , rts , str, w/e is crap shouldnt call themself gamers, maybe just fps players, fps is mainstream nowadays, check back at the 90's when pretty much all games where accepted by a bigger part, not just the younger generation.
And when the majority is asked about what a gamer is, i think they all saying the same answare, that they play "games" not "the game" or the "genre"
But i can understand your point of view.

So, what you're trying to say is that a person that only plays one genre and think the other ones are crap, shouldn't consider themselves a "gamer". Right?

Just like you said, that's totally up to you (it's your opinion after all).

I personally disagree with that point of view though.

You play a game (frequently), you game. You game, you're a gamer.

I'd say you have to play games regularly in order to call yourself a gamer, but really, there are different types of gamers. Casual gamers, for instance, generally play the easier games, and they generally don't spend nearly as much time on it as hardcore gamers, who (probably) enjoys challenging gameplay and (probably) spends a large part of their spare time on it.

So yeah, gaming regularly = gamer. If you ask me.

various places to find me lol
Depends on the person to what they class as a gamer. By rights anyone who regularly plays would be one irrespective of what they play.
However youngfags have taken the stance that you're not a gamer unless you vegetate online playing commercial shite all day & night.

IMO anyone who acts like a dick-end has no right to call themselves a gamer regardless of how much they play. They can settle for being classed as an asshat. Gaming is as much about your attitude as what you do.

If you play just 1 game or series, then you are a <series> gamer. Eg CoD gamer
If you play just 1 genre then you are a <genre> gamer. Eg FPS gamer
If you play games, then you are a player.
If you play a variety of games for a variety of reasons, and are accomplished across the board, then you have earned the title 'gamer'.

I consider a 'core' gamer to be an extension of 'gamer'. Though I do accept that some people who play just 1 game are core gamers.
I consider anyone who plays games pretty frequently to be a gamer, it doesn't matter what they are playing, they are still a gamer.
If you go past mainstream you're already a gamer.
