It's good that you set him straight, but people can -rep or +rep for whatever reason they feel is necessary. (or just about)

It really depends on the reasons. Grudges, Personally hate the other person, etc. can be good reasons to take out a derep.

No one enjoys someone with more power and/or smarter than them.
It could be seen as back seat modding etc.,

People can +rep or -rep you for whatever they want. Just as an example Zinx may think it\\\'s funny to -rep this post, there is nothing I can do.

Moderators will step in if it\\\'s abused beyond reason, example I go around -reping all of Zinx\\\'s posts. Other than that if you are generally nice and helpful your rep will go up.
