i heard from a player today that transparencies were apparently illegal.

I was just wondering if that was true as I haven't played for a while and I am pretty sure it was ok back in 2009,

I can see how it could be a problem if a player had a majority of his body transparent which could make it hard to see what he was doing, but my personal texture is just every other pixel switches from black to transparent, giving a grid like effect, and I was just wondering if it was legal or not.

Why is this coming up a lot all of a sudden? Yes, it is illegal to have your character mostly transparent. If it becomes a problem, the person solving the problem determines what is too much.

I do not know about in 2009 mostly because I was also new in that time. But that doesn't matter now.

And about the grid effect, I am fairly positive you can do that. I see nothing wrong with it.
