I am LANing a lot with some doods and I can't come up with any Real time strategy or turn based strategy games we have a common interest for.

What is your all time favorite RTS or TBS games? It doesn't really matter how old they are.

What we got on our hard-drives:

Starcraft 1 and 2
Age of empires 1 2 and 3
Company of heroes
Men of war
Sins of a solar empire
Rise of nations
Warcraft 3 (cba 1 and 2)
Empire earth 1 and 2
Stronghold
Frozen Synapse
Command and conquer generals (cba other versions)
warhammer 40k dawn of war 1 and 2
alpha centauri
We also have the dota games, original dota, dota2, HoN, LoL, Bloodline Champions.

Yes we are big nerds..

I need some help on this, me and my friends want to lan as well but we still haven't decided on a good RTS.
Some of them are noobs so it has to be a bit simple.

We kinda enjoy Generals.

Civilization 4 (or any civ game) + expansions?

never got too into starcraft.
command and conquer is a favorite among my friends.
enjoyed the warcraft3 rts at some point, was more interested in the custom maps though, dota, tower defenses, hero defenses etc, so i got bored of the rts aspect.
the civilization games are also apprently great.
age of empires used to be fun.

dawn of war was always my fav rts though, maybe its just cus im an warhammer fan

I find your list disturbingly lacking in Total War!
Other than that, Dawn of War: Dark Crusade is one of my all time favourite RTS games, and the Worms series is one of my favourite TBS games.

try battle for wesnoth, good round based game.. with a few races and nice extra maps (like survival or something)
