I would use something like darken or add.

U should look at the image in desaturated grayscale.
Right now the tori an the background are the same value even though the colors are different. So it makes it muddy. You can diect attention to the tori by increasing contrast or at least boosting the whites. That will help to bring it forward from the background.

Not sure if gimp has lighting effects but adding some blue and red on tori as reflected light would be legit

Nice picture ,but try to make sides of the flames smoother. Cause it seems like a c/p.

Could make the flames look realer. Fading the bottom of them might help.

looks good, except the flames don't look realistic, they look as it they are just stuck on

also the reflection on the joints do not show either of the flames. this is a big deal
