I'm gonna show you here this WIP I've been making in GIMP 2.8 and I wanted to hear what you guys think about it, and possibly how I should continue it.

looks good so far, im not sure if its just me but the hair looks a bit too far away from the center but other than that it is pretty good for your first head

Yeah, when I rendered it to a sphere it was a little far, but it doesn't really ruin the head, not at all actually. I just have no ideas for the eyes.
