Did you update you video card when you updated? (You must always do this manual)

If you got nvidia

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

If you got ATI

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Hope it helps, and if it dont try some program like system mechanic or malewearbytes

sytem mechanic:

Maleware bytes:

Want my head? Just ask (PM) ;)
I suggest that you completele format and reinstall your system. Theres lots of ways to clean up a windows, but it dosent worth it, there cant possibly be an anvivirus/malvare/spyware what could kill all the enemy files in a system.
So what I suggest is that you set your system again, and you'll get your "very fast" PC back, which I doubt its fast, since 40-50 fps is damn slow.

1.------------------
Restart go to safe mode[press F7 / F12 during mobo intro screen]
when in safe mode u'll have a restore dialog box first restore ur PC to an old date, when you think comp was not affected.

Try the oldest restore.this can be done in normal mode but safe mode is recommended
2.-------------------

Since you said the Windows XP looks like Windows 200/98,It could be due to disabling of Window themes.

First try this

Run> type msconfig>

a dialog box will open up.
General tick --normal start up.
tick all options in system.ini & win.ini
tick all services in services tab.

i was gona say Even for an expert, removing a virus properly from a system is often a daunting task without the help of specific tools designed for the job. Some viruses and other unwanted software (including spyware) are even designed to reinstall themselves after they have been detected and removed! Fortunately, through updating your computer and using free, trial-period, or low-cost antivirus tools offered by many companies, you can permanently remove unwanted software and help prevent future infection. like i said even if you wipe your drive the virus can reinstal it self. trust me viruses are complex.
Thats why I adviced formatting (muhahaha)
Also a good antivirus gets rid of the problems easily.
And you can always just stop its spreading from the registry, by running the regedit.
